Ingredients

Quantities are for one portion.

  • 1red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1onion, sliced
  • 70 gwhite rice
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspvegetable oil
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbspsesame oil
  • 30 mlsoy sauce
  • 2garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 gplain flour
  • 150 gbeef sirloin, thinly sliced

Method

  1. Boil the dry white rice in salted water until thoroughly tender, then cover and set aside.
  2. Mix the sliced beef with the plain flour and a pinch of salt.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or heavy skillet until smoking. Add the beef and sear rapidly until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Lower the heat slightly and add the sliced onion, red bell pepper, and garlic to the wok. Stir-fry until the vegetables begin to soften.
  5. Return the beef to the wok.
  6. Add the soy sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil. Toss the mixture continuously over the heat until fragrant and completely coated.
  7. Serve the intensely savory beef warm with the plain white rice.
