Ingredients

Quantities are for one portion.

  • 8vegetable gyozas (store-bought, frozen)
  • 1 tbspsesame oil
  • 10 mlrice vinegar
  • 20 mlsoy sauce
  • 80 gshort-grain white rice (dry)
  • 1 tspchili oil
  • 1spring onion, finely sliced

Method

  1. Rinse the short-grain rice and cook it according to the packet instructions until sticky and tender, then set aside.
  2. To make the dipping sauce, mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili oil, and half of the sliced spring onion in a small bowl.
  3. Heat the sesame oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the frozen gyoza flat-side down and fry until the bottoms are deeply golden and crispy.
  4. Carefully pour a small splash of water into the hot pan and immediately cover with a lid to steam the dumplings.
  5. Cook until the water completely evaporates and the gyoza are cooked through.
  6. Serve the crispy dumplings hot with the sticky rice, dipping sauce, and the remaining spring onion scattered over the top.
