Yakiniku Rice Bowl
Quickly seared, thin beef slices tossed in a sweet sesame-soy barbecue glaze, served over rice with fresh shredded cabbage.
Ingredients
Quantities are for one portion.
- 20 gwhite cabbage, shredded
- 15 gsugar
- 1 tbspmirin
- 70 gdry white rice
- 150 gthinly sliced beef
- 1 tbspsesame oil
- 10 gsesame seeds
- 15 mlsoy sauce
- 1 tbspsake
Method
- Rinse and steam the white rice until fluffy.
- Prepare a small bowl with the finely shredded white cabbage to serve raw alongside the hot meat.
- In a bowl, whisk the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, sesame oil, and sesame seeds to create the yakiniku glaze.
- Heat a pan until very hot. Lay the thin beef slices flat in the pan.
- Sear the beef quickly on both sides to brown the edges without overcooking.
- Pour the sweet sesame-soy glaze into the pan. Let it bubble and coat the beef slices, turning off the heat almost immediately.
- Lay the glazed beef over a bowl of hot rice, accompanied by the cold shredded cabbage.
