Aloo Tikki Chaat
A popular, explosion-of-flavor Indian street food featuring crispy spiced potato patties smothered in cool yogurt and tangy, sweet chutneys.
Ingredients
Quantities are for one portion.
- 0.5red onion, finely chopped
- 20 gsev (crispy chickpea noodles)
- 1 tbspvegetable oil
- salt to taste
- 250 gpotatoes, peeled and diced
- 100 gcanned chickpeas, drained
- 50 gplain yogurt
- 30 mltamarind chutney (store-bought)
- 1 tspchaat masala
- 20 mlmint coriander chutney (store-bought)
Method
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until completely tender, then drain and mash them thoroughly.
- Form the mashed potato into two thick, flat patties.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and pan-fry the potato patties until deeply golden and crispy on both sides.
- While the patties cook, gently warm the chickpeas in a small pot.
- Place the crispy potato patties on a plate and top them heavily with the warm chickpeas.
- Drizzle generously with the plain yogurt and both chutneys, then garnish with the chopped red onion, chaat masala, and crispy sev before serving.
